A Message for Prospective Players and Pre-Season Details

07 July 2013 at 16:59

Welcome to the University of Bristol Hockey Club website. If you are reading this, then you are hopefully thinking of joining our ranks down at Coombe Dingle, so here are a few things you might want to know.

Firstly, we pride ourselves on being an extremely welcoming and inclusive club. The excellent facilities at Coombe Dingle and dedicated coaching staff we offer (consisting of both professional coaches and senior players from within the club) will give you the perfect opportunity to improve any aspect of your game and challenge for a place in one of our five men’s teams or four women’s teams.

For those of you who have played at a high standard of hockey before, the professionalism and dedication that the club has displayed over the last few years has helped both the men’s and women's teams reach the extremely high level they currently acheive. Both the men’s and women’s 1st XIs are currently playing at the highest tier in the BUCS competition and last year, the men’s 1XI achieved the highest position in their history, finishing 3rd in the Davis Wood Premiership, narrowly missing out on promotion to the National League.

The club offers multiple training sessions each week, with most players attending two. Alongside this, there are strength and conditioning gym sessions aimed at improving and maintaining fitness levels. The level of training you choose to undertake depends entirely upon you and the level that you wish to play at.

Off the pitch, we pride ourselves on being one of the most socially active clubs in the university. We are particularly renowned for our Socials every Wednesday. These are not to be missed!

PRE-SEASON TRAINING begins on the 9th SEPTEMBER. All are welcome and accommodation will be provided for you by the club, in the form of current UBHC members’ houses. Pre-season is a great opportunity to introduce yourself to your new hockey club, train hard and discover Bristol before the mayhem of Fresher’s Fortnight begins.

If you wish to attend Pre-Season Training, or have any other questions about the club, please email Richard Elston, Men's Club Captain ( or Alice Webb, Ladies Club Captain (

Really hope to see you soon!
